Mine arrived from Penguin on Saturday. I knew what the coins were from the demo, so no surprise,
except the profile coin is really cool looking in person.
The DVD was a big surprise. I
had thought that it would be a very simple explanation because the coins pretty much do the work. A
very basic spellbound move and you have a great piece of very unusual magic.
The DVD is
actually very comprehensive. You get a studio solo performance and two live performances ( in a pub
) of both Skewer and Profile. Garrett goes over basic handlings for both coins.
Garrett
gives instruction on proper finger palm placement to make the hand look natural.

Now you're up and running and can perform. This is
what I use. I appreciate the advanced handlings and enjoyed watching them, but I'm a keep it simple
guy ( translated, I can't do advanced work;-)
Advanced switch handlings shown:
Snap Change ( a spellbound type switch )
Roll over switch. This is the most difficult, but
because of the way Garrett constructed the routine of massaging ( heating the coin ) it provides
excellent cover for the switch. I think you could do it poorly and it will work.
This is a
fairly easy trick to perform, so you can actually watch their faces as you do it. MUCH different
reactions than 3 fly or other transpo type of tricks. Not better, just different. Because it's done
slowly, you really see them go through the "how is that happening" facial expressions.
I
would suggest not using too much magician patter on this. I've been letting them examine the Kennedy
half. Taking it back and SLOWLY make the magic happen. Because you aren't changing a silver coin
into a copper coin, they don't know a switch has happened. I say, "let me get my lighter" and I
while I retrieve it, and I ditch the normal coin ( never go to your pocket without a reason and you
must tell them the reason, or it 'smells';-) The lighter of course supplies the extra heat. You can
let them examine the coin ( they'll want to ).
Have I been asked to change it back? Yes!
Then why don't I? Gut feeling not to. I use heat to cause the change and I tell them it takes
extreme cold to change it back and I have to leave it over night in my freezer. I'm not a
professional so if that's seems wrong or bad theater, it's what has been working for me. I'm open to
doing if differently if I read a sound reason.
I've only been doing it this week, but so
far, the Profile coin is the big reaction getter. I thought it would be the other way around. Maybe
I thought that from my experiences with the karate coin.
I've carried a Half Dollar and
English penny in my pocket for 30 years. I may not even perform it, but still carry them just in
case. I will now carry Profile.
BIG THUMBS for me up on this trick!
