I can see Pocket Bizarre as a great effect for street performers. I might even find a way to build
it into one of my shows.
For starters, it works just like you see in the clips. They
don't pull any punches or leave out any moves that make you feel 'cheated' once you know how the
effect is done. It plays in reality just like it does on the clips.
In playing with it, I
found that a time delay does wonders. In the clips things happen rather rapidly and leaves the
sense that one action causes another. By building in a bit more time between critical moves and the
reveal, the secret, in my humble opinion, is even more disguised and this makes it all even more
magical.
Why four rather than five stars? Again, the method and the gimmick provided and
DVD are five stars. The effect is well set up and described on the DVD and everything is provided
in order to construct the gimmick. For me, it was a bit difficult to assemble the unit. Being
older than dirt makes working with small objects somewhat difficult. It took me a long time to get
a working model. Once constructed, it seems to be durable and should last for a long time. In
performance, set up is fairly quick although you can't set up in front of an audience.
This
is one that I am sure I will find a use for either in my show, or as an MC or in other ways. If I
were a street performer or a table hopper, this would definitely be in my aresenal of effects.
