David Regal gives Quadrant a really good review in Reel Magic Magazine. I waited a long time to buy
Quadrant, and finally made the plunge when my friends here at Penguin had it in the Blizzard Box for
half price. I thought that was a great deal. However, a great deal only applies if something is just
as advertised, and in my opinion this is not. I know it is not Penguin, but rather the manufacturer
of this effect. To start off, the instructions are just "so so." It has the appearance of being
thorough, but you still go away to work on this effect only "kind of" knowing what to do, and
definitely only getting enough to assemble one gimmick is just enough to get you started. But that's
not the worst of it...(and I don't want to totally give the gimmick away) but somewhere down the
line someone must have decided to downsize the gimmick, so the size of the gimmick sent, is not the
size of the gimmick that is used in the instruction DVD. At least that is the case with the one I
received. When you assemble the gimmick and start, as I did, to do the effect and it just doesn't
seem to be working right, you will go back to the DVD and you will notice that the surface area on
the gimmick they use is substantially larger than what they have sent you. If the smaller one (pair)
they send worked good, that would be fine, but they do not. So go back through the instruction on
preparing your gimmick and take notice of the size of the surface covered by what they use and the
size of the surface covered of what was sent to you. Then you will understand why it doesn't seem to
quite work like it seems to for them. If you are adept at making gimmicks, you should be able to get
what is needed to make it work right, but the point is you shouldn't have to. Plus, you will have to
order and pay for what you will need which will most likely involve additional monetary spending and
shipping cost. So with all this said, I think the effect has potential, but I am not happy I didn't
receive EXACTLY what is used in the instruction DVD.
