I purchased Rick's original DVD years ago and still had trouble throwing cards. At Magi-Fest a few
years ago Rick and I ended up rooming together one night and he was nice enough to help me out and
my results improved dramatically. That said, I used it as pretty much like a party trick until
recently. I started adding card throwing into my school assemblies about a month ago and the kids
and adults LOVED it.
I purchased Velocity for the information it contained about adding
card throwing into your act; they types of targets and things you could throw at and other flicks
and flourishes. The purchase was well worth it. In Velocity, Rick does a much more in depth job of
explaining grips, techniques and the mechanics of throwing. If you've never thrown a card before,
it's still going to take a considerable amount of practice to build up speed, accuracy and
consistency. That said, it’s a lot like starting out in golf. While you may not be great at first,
every so often you’ll make a great throw that will keep you motivated.
The production
values are excellent which I feel are necessary for a project such as this one. Unless you’re
fortunate enough to have Rick teach you one-on-one, Velocity is the next best thing. Plus, the
information about routining it into your show is also very valuable.
