Penguin, you ought to be ashamed. You knew your customers were not going to get what they paid for,
yet you aired it anyway. Between this and the Darren Brown interview I could not be more
disappointed. Sell your get to know the magician interviews to people who are interested but please
don't pass it off as a magic lecture on penguin live.
But if you look in the description below the video, it does say that this is an extended interview, not a lecture.
I agree with john, these are interviews not lectures. They are called "Penguin Live Lectures" for a reason and these are definitely NOT lectures!
I agree with John.
And if you order these lectures individually you at least have a choice but with the subscription it is a kind of a trap.
To be fair I can understand why Penguin did the 'interviews' with Derren Brown and Dynamo, given they're both famous and these interviews will generate a lot of buys for them. However, I do sympathise with the subscribers given they had no choice with what they were given.
Indeed, these are not 'lectures' in the sense they don't teach 'methods'. However, they do offer the viewers an insight of the performer (in this case; Derren Brown and Dynamo). If you're after a lecture that offers 'effects'/'methods' then stay away from these two 'lectures'. But if you're a fan of either Derren Brown or Dynamo, you're probably going to enjoy watching the interviews/anecdotes.
Actually they are lectures in that they are educational - however they are not lectures in that they do not teach tricks.
There are however some tips to make your existing tricks stronger...which is worthwhile in and of itself. Good lecture.
Complete waste of money. Second week on the trot we have been hoodwinked. I have cancelled my subscription. Not paying hard earned money to listen to interviews.
Complete waste money. I don't want to wast hard earned money to listen to interviews that I can get for free on TV.
I don't want to be rude to penguin, as I buy here every week, but I agree with almost all of you, this is a complete waste of money. I asked on the "Live Chat" a while ago (back when they first asked us to come up with the questions for them) if they were going to cover material in the lectures as I was suspicious. They had told me, "they are going to go over material for sure :)" (something like that). I was pretty sure they would but soon I found out that my suspicion was correct! Everything is an interview! Hopefully, the berglas "lecture" will be much better because he is not as famous as brown and dynamo, so he has less risk if he reveals a few things. But anyways, my recommendation to anyone buying these in a subscription, is to complain to support@penguinmagic.com With so many complaints, they will have to do something to make it right for you guys. They are penguin and they are known for the great customer service!
A lecture doesn't have to be where they teach tricks all of the time you know. I've been to lectures where they don't teach any tricks just give advice and respond to questions
I haven't watched this yet, but derren brown was pathetic. His precious few pieces of advice were vague and insufficient. All the interview really was was about him, with negligible theory and methodology. And then they had the audacity to act like it was one of their best lectures ever. This looks to be going the same way.
Don't waste your time or money . Penguin you blew it - don't do it again - it's a rip off and you know it. If not then read the comments, apologise, and get back to what you should be doing.
The lecture did exactly what it promised and I would give it 5 stars. Putting that aside, I want to learn at least 3 or 4 tricks within these Penguin Live Lectures. Shimshi was a great example; he gave great advice about what he discovered that can short cut your time to becoming successful AND he did some tricks and explained why he did what he did and it was a brilliant lecture.
Derren Brown and Dynamo are great interviews for magicians that are currently working and want to get to the next level. I want to learn tricks and moving forward I will have to cancel my subscription also and be more picky about what lectures I buy.
i know magicians have a bad reputation of wanting to just learn tricks---but i have been on holidays and looking forward to having time to practice new material-- but all three "lectures" have been terrible and I have not learnt one trick. Derren and Dynamo didn't teach anything and Montana was impractical mumbo jumbo---it has been disappointing. I think I will cease my subscription---what a waste of a holiday.
