The premise of O&W is a very beautiful effect. Very simple, visual, and elegant. Unfortunately, I
never was able to find a way of doing O&W as intended.
The impromptu versions have way too
many moves. Move this, move that, count this, reverse count that, ect. It makes it so confusing,
especially for the spectator. Makes the trick look quite bad.
Then there is an extra-card
version. Which is a lot cleaner than the impromptu versions. However, one is required to use extra
card with the packet. This makes it impossible to spread the card wave displaying as many cards as
you say you do. Some spectators will suspect there may be an extra card not shown.
But
then there is David Solomon's version. Yes, it is gimmicked and gaffed. But this is truly the way
O&W should be done. I perform this effect in silence. There is no need to say what you are doing.
Simplicity is powerful magic. And with David's method, this is as simple, as visual, and as
beautiful looking an O&W routine ever looks.
There is no clean O&W, unfortunately, that I
ever seen, with regular cards. This is why a lot of magicians cannot stand O&W. It is too technical.
But get this. Try it. You will love performing it.
