I only recently learned the Quarter through soda can. Yes, I am very late to the party. Most reviews
here are 5-8 years old. I do not see any recent reviews or comments. It is no longer available here,
but I thought this info should be shared. Yes, it is a great effect if performed properly, but there
is a big problem.
It's 2017, and apparently the soda can manufacturers have changed the size of
the hole in can. Without giving anything away, a standard US Quarter NO longer fits in through the
hole without having to force it. It's just a hair too narrow now. In the demonstration video it is
shown dropping out of the can into spectators hand. You will no longer be able to do that. No one
seems to mention that.
The effect is 5 stars, but no longer being able to properly perform
it sadly makes it a 1.
That's not the tricks fault.
If a quarter can't fit, THEN USE A SMALLER COIN, LIKE A NICKEL OR SOMETHING! Common sense
I learned this effect back when quarters still worked but I too was upset when manufacturers changed the size of the hole...But a nickel works just fine.
Over time, you will be able to just look at the mouth and know if you need to use a nickel, or if you need to give the quarter an extra little push, which Wayne explains in the dvd - there is ample cover for this as the can sprays as it’s opened and you take a step back as to not get anyone wet. This makes for an even more impossible souvenir as the quarter cannot come out. Also, squeezing the can in the middle gives it a bottle neck (an idea from Chad Juros) so that the coin has a much harder time coming out. Also good to look at the bottom of the can to make sure its edges are workable too. Some cans like Keystone aren’t going to work and you’ll need to do the penetration through the top of the can and not the bottom (I learned this the hard way back in college during a live performance). This and more ideas/subtleties are explained on Wayne’s Penguin live lecture as well as his Sinful Graphic Novel. I’ve been performing this effect for over 17 years, so I know a thing or two about it.
