If you saw Banachek's recent Penguin Live lecture, you saw him demonstrate--right out of Corinda--an
ancient and somewhat neglected mentalism technique. (The ad says "secret writing," and those in the
know will understand exactly what that means so I won't elaborate any further.) There have been
other excellent works on this topic by Strivings, Riggs, etc., but this will be the new standard.
Banachek is an amazing thinker. He shows and tells you everything, right down to the smallest
subtlety. It's easy to see why he's often billed as the world's greatest mentalist. And along with
a select few, giants like Max Maven, Dan Harlan, and Richard Osterlind, he's a truly gifted teacher.
He doesn't digress or waste your time. He's methodically clear and concise so even on something
this arcane, he makes it seem so easy. It's not. It will require practice, but his creativity and
enthusiasm will get you excited to work on this technique and make it your own.
If you
have ever wondered if this stuff was practical, get this and you'll know. And a call out to another
great mentalist, Paul Brook, who sneered and scoffed at anybody using this technique on one of his
podcasts. Do you want to challenge Banachek? Really? Seriously, this is another great addition to
fundamental mentalism instructional material. You get a little over 36 minutes of video and a
profusely illustrated PDF. You will love this.
I was going to congratulate you on a seriously great review until you included a name that has nothing to do with the product, just so you could "call him out" for having a different opinion than you. These types of comments don't belong in a review. Save it for the message boards.
Does he teach this in the penguin lecture?"
I wish to compliment and complement "RaceBlakhart" regarding his observation. I'm not trying to add to what has already been said, as I believe "Race" said what was appropriate. I do concur with "Race", but I'm writing because I admire those in magic who uphold "The High Road" of ethics in our fraternity. Good comment, "Race", well stated, and thanks for standing up.
Folks, I did mention in a message to Paul about Banachek's use of this technique before I wrote this review, and what he thought. He was amused and kept his original opinion--and he took no offense at my asking. I didn't "call him out," and it has nothing to do with ethics. Paul always gets the highest ratings from me for his stuff because he's a genius. These two guys just disagree--much like folks disagree about which p**k or i**pad is better.
