Michael Ammar is a phenomenal teacher and he does teach this very clearly, although I do think he
could have stood to spend a little bit longer explaining the move. I'd recommend this trick to
intermediate magicians whole-heartedly. Advanced magicians will probably already know it and aren't
interested in doing tricks that involve doing the same move over and over again when they have
better tricks to choose from. Intermediate magicians, however, will love it.
My big issue
is that the ad copy says "Here's why this card trick is awesome. 1. People think you're hiding like
20 cards in your hands, so when you let them examine the 4 cards at the end their brains explode."
In a trick like this it's incredibly important to let people examine the cards because they
really will think you actually have 12 cards. The problem is this story does not end in an
examinable position. You'd have to end the story with their being one black pair and one red pair
for it to be examinable but I haven't thought of how to make that make sense yet. Without that, this
trick is NOT EXAMINABLE! I assume at some point someone will figure out how to make that ending make
sense in a satisfying way and post it on the forum but until that point I don't plan on performing
it and neither should you. When someone does figure that out I'll try to comment on this review that
its now time to buy.
@HarryKellar suggested the following alternate ending to the story which would be examinable: One of the black haired queens decided to divorce her spouse (turn over top queen and put on table face up) and marry one of the red haired men (turn over the now top red King and put on table face up).
The spurned Red haired spouse (turn over the now top red Queen and put on table face up) married the spurned black haired spouse (put remaining card on table face up). And everyone lived happily ever after.
If you like that ending buy this trick (its now ready to perform) and go to the questions section to see how he gets into position for this ending.
@daimo points out that on Malone on the Loose Vol. 2 there's another alternate ending which is supposed to be fantastic. I haven't seen it so I can't guarantee its examinable but its worth checking out if you can find it. If anyone can vouch for it being examinible please comment below.
The Malone version is great but requires lapping, so it cannot be performed standing.
Before starting the trick, hand out a set-up deck and have the spectator deal off the top 4 cards, face down. Now they know you are working with only 4 cards.
