I broke two of my personal rules with "Black Flag." The first was "Never purchase an effect just
because you're curious about the secret." And the other is "Never post a review of an effect you've
yet to perform."
I'm glad I broke the first rule, as it was well-worth the $10 for
something I will actually use. And I'm breaking the second rule because I think I can add things
that the promo video and text do not.
First and foremost, while this is presented in the
promo as a card divination, this can also be used as a force, which is how I will use it. (How many
of you just roll your eyes whenever a magician holds up a deck of cards and says, "Say stop whenever
you randomly choose."?)
I wasn't blown away by the divination routine presented, which is
why I gave it only four stars. I'm not sure how I will add that "wow" factor, but I can definitely
see combining this with an invisible deck or any number of other effects.
Another big plus
to "Black Flag" is that two methods are presented. And they are indeed distinctly different methods,
not just two variations of the same thing. The first method uses a move that I'd rate a 2.5 out of 5
for degree of difficulty (about same difficulty as a DL.) And the other method is only a one at its
most difficult.
Good work Lewis Le Val! That was $10 well-spent.

This routine is very clever but will require far more than the tiny bit of practice mentioned in the
blurb "with just a tiny bit of practice you'll be fooling all your friends as you fly the Black
Flag."
There is only one sleight involved but it is not particularly easy to acquire. If you
have not already mastered this move then you will require a lot more than the tiny bit of practiced
promised. However it is well worth learning to do it.
What Lewis points out is that many of us
will be able to quickly learn the move for it is one of the basics that many of us will have
attempted and played about with ever since we started to handle a pack of cards for magic. But if
you are not a frequent card handler, or didn't have a misspent youth when you were, then you are
going to have to put in some serious practice.
I'm almost tempted to name the sleight so you
could judge for yourself, but I think Penguin would redact it. But the point is the sleight is not
the secret - the secret is what Lewis has discovered the sleight will achieve when performed
together with the black flag. It is a very clever idea indeed which does make possible a routine
with a stunning effect on an audience. It does need selling strongly but this is a card trick which
can be built up to much, much more, than a card trick.
So the three things which might put you
off (though they shouldn't) are firstly that it will require practice, secondly that it needs
selling and you need some audience management skills, and thirdly it would be pointless to follow
this with any other card tricks.
However this is something that once learned will be with you
forever. With a pack of cards and hankerchief or bandana and any pack of cards to hand you will have
a very strong ACT which can be performed in almost any circumstances and which will build your
reputation.

This is one of those small gems that pack small (you can even pack nothing) and play big. A lot of
fun to do, fairly easy as well.
Lewis Lé Val is an excellent teacher — he got me immediately, as
he revealed the secret and walked away. One of the best gags I've ever seen in a magic video.
Excellent teacher, he doesn't leave any rock unturned.
Very, very, very, very good.

I thought for sure I knew how this was done but I was wrong. And I've been performing magic for over
40 years. Simple but so so devious. You'll never get caught, you can do it surrounded, it can be
instantly repeated with a different card being selected every time, you can borrow the deck and
hanky, there's no reset, no gimmicks and only one sleight but easily mastered within minutes of
practice. Use this method as a prediction, a divination or a force. Lewis is a very clever creator.

I've been a pro or semi-pro for the past 45 years. I've never seen this. It's actually new. It's
brilliant! BRILLIANT! Both on the table and in the hand taught. If you have been around cards a
little, you can do this the second you see it. Some have said there is a sleight. Technically, yes
but it is something almost everyone knows already or can do and since you will do it under the
hanky, there is no way you even have to be GOOD at it! So if you like this buy it! Use as a force
is very strong. Great teaching done fast and well. Total no brainer for $10! Buy it!

The methods are fantastic and easy to do!
I would suggest to perform the "in hand" version first
followed
by table top method as the latter is stronger of the two divinations.
I
showed this to a fellow magician in the order mentioned above. I used his newly opened deck and he's
responds was,
"Ok, you used my deck... can you see through the scarf?"
I've used
scarves, kerchiefs, bar and regular napkins.
Everything can be borrowed and can be presented
impromptu.
This is definitely a gem for bar/restaurant workers.

There are so many effects I have purchased which I will not use for one reason and another. This,
however will be used by me for a couple of reasons. It will work 100% of the time, it uses ordinary
props (non gimmicked), and it is so very easy to do. This, for me was money well spent.
Recommended.

I watch the trailer several times, I was pretty sure I knew what was going on, and after buying I
saw I was right. So I'm disappointed in myself for not figuring this out on my own:)
This is
well worth the purchase! He deserves the 10 bucks just for coming up with this, you will use this :)

The method is so clever. You are going to hit yourself of how simple it is. I like using the method
as a force. Love the method and the tutorial.

Lewis provides two methods of accomplishing the effect. The first method will require some practice
and patience for me because I am over 70 years old and my hands are stiff. The second method is
easier, but the first looks more hands off.
