You present the current issues of two popular magazines and allow a spectator to examine all of them and choose one. You turn away and instruct her to open her magazine to any page and think of any word. "But let's find a good word," you say, "Make it a difficult word." She thinks of any word, on any page. It could be buried in an ad or a word from a picture caption. It's all fair game. Once she has a word in her mind, she closes the magazine and you turn around. You look her in the eyes and tell her what word she is thinking of.

Glance is the ingenious creation of Ireland's Steve Thompson. In collaboration with Vanishing Inc. and designed by Andi Gladwin, Glance brings you an entirely prepared contemporary news magazine. Wrap it with any current magazine cover and you will have one of the most potent weapons available to the performing mentalist: an ordinary object that allows you to do extraordinary things.

With the blessing of Ted Karmilovich (creator of Mother of All Book Tests), Glance allows you to perform one of the most impossible, memorable feats of mentalism with an object everyone has heard of and read before. And with Steve's ingenious new system, you don't even need to fish for any information about the word before revealing it.

  • No glimpses.
  • No preparation.
  • No counting.
  • No short pages.
  • No stooges.
  • No peeks.
  • No sleight-of-hand.
  • No cues.
  • No guesses.
Glance is an achievement in both engineering and design. Take a cursory flip through the magazine page by page and you will be astounded by the craftsmanship of the wording and the precision of the layout.

Special Combo set: we think that Glance is even better when you give the audience two different magazines to look through. Therefore, we have varied the design, creating a second magazine.

"To be blunt, the price tag is WAY too low for a secret this strong!"

Best magazine test - PERIOD Report this review

This is one of the best effects released in 2012. Hard hitting, easy to learn. The magazines themselves are very well designed and appear to be typical business/news type magazines.

There are multiple easy ways to get what you need, some quite innovative. Glance will hit your spectators right between the eyes!

I do recommend replacing the covers. Don't follow the advice in the instructions on replacing a cover by re-inserting the staples! Simply go to your local Fed/Ed office (kinkos) and ask to borron their long stapler... and voila, staple away and your mag will be rebound perfectly. The "Economist" magazine is a perfect size - time or Newsweek are a little less ideal as you will need to trim the Glance magazine a little.

Overall Glance is just powerful as anything, and far better than ANY magazine test I have yet encountered, highest recommendation.

This is a great product! The quality and packaging of the magazines were fantastic, and worthy of the price tag. Like all other reviewers, I think this is a great routine, and sure to stump alot of people.

However, I think it needs to be said that you CAN'T choose ANY word. And if the spectators were to spend a little more time picking a word from the text, they might be able to figure that something is wrong.
So it's the magician's job to manage them and not give them too much time to scrutinize the text.

Also, you probably can't do this on the same person, twice. (at least within a certain period of time)

Nuff said. Good stuff.

This mentalism routine is over the top. It is really that good. In my shows I also use some very high end electronics, this gets the same results without having to spend thousands. It's organic mentalism at it's best. Everything looks natural and ungimmicked.

This appears to be real mind reading. Last weekend I performed this in front of about 60 people. My wife, who assists me has never seen me perform "Glance". She knows how similar methods work but not this one. When the effect was over, the look on her face was priceless. It was a crowd pleaser and impressed my wife too. Glance stays in my act for good!

Just BUY THESE!

I'd honestly prefer very few people buy these to keep them exclusive to a few. But if you are looking at this review, then it probably means you are considering the purchase.

This is by far my favorite release of 2012! They are excellent, and powerful. And the price?!? COME ON!! A steal of a deal!

Glance 3.0 Report this review

Great trick.
Pros:
You get two parlour/stage presentations and one close-up:
1) David Hoy/Tossed-out method (no fishing) (if you are creative, it can be close-up)
2) Ted Karmilovich/MOABT (it looks like you knew the first letter, the spectator has to tell you the first letter that is why it is a parlour presentation)
3) Thompson’s signature method (the spectator tells you the letter of the word before). This can be done close-up with you and your spectator and no one else if you wish.

You get two magazines. You will be taught a mnemonic. There is also a page with the words hidden in plain sight, in case you forget them.

Cons: There could have been more nuances in the tutorial. I feel something is missing from the video. The trick can’t be repeated. You should make sure your spectator understands you. If there is a misunderstanding or you aren’t clear enough about the length of the word…

Things to know about 3.0 word bank (which is the same as 2.0)
You would need to memorise 8 words.

This is my first book test so I cannot compare it to others however I can say that its incredibly easy to learn and gets incredible reactions. The price seemed a bit steep however it seems worthwhile. My only complaint would probably be that I don't think the magazines will last all that long especially if you carry them around often. Great effect, great trick!

My sister is the toughest critic I have. She has figured out many of my mentalism effects. However, this is the one that stumped her! She had NO IDEA how I did it. These gimmicks are so versatile and well made! Purchase this as soon as possible to stump your toughest critics!Definitely a 5 out of 5!!

amazing what you get for such a low price. i mean...it depends how you look at this. cons: youre paying $50 for two magazines. pros: your paying 50 for two really well done and designed magazines. i mean, i bought "tru test" which is $100 and you get only one pg(technically you get a bunch of copies of only one page).

i used this already and it was super easy. picked it up in about 10min but, you gotta work on the presentation and the reveal though. put some real thought into it. this thing is great i gotta say. this is going straight into the mentalism suitcase. really.
