I was very intrigued by the demo. Especially when it states, “Spectator Freely and Secretly Shuffles
the Cups”.
I have to put this right up there with some of the most deceptive and dishonest demos
I’ve seen. The spectator absolutely does NOT shuffle the cups freely or secretly. There is no way I
would ever perform this!
There’s a reason there’s no real performance included in the demo… and
that’s because it would directly contradict what the demo states and how it’s presented.
I love
Penguin Magic, and have given them a lot of my business over the years, and I’ll continue to do so…
but this is very disappointing.
The only reason I’m giving it 2 stars and not just 1 star, is
because of the packaging and look of it. It looks classy, and professional, and can easily be
carried anywhere-anytime.
However, this is going straight into the junk drawer.

I’m really surprised by the other review of this product as I’ve been having so much fun playing
around with this set. What I love is that the method is super simple, but so deceptive. I can see
that some people might think the basic routine wouldn’t fool people. But in my experience, that
isn’t the case. I got this only a short while ago, and so I’ve only done the basic routine, but on
the twenty or so people I’ve performed it for, the reactions are great.
What I’ve found
is that people have fun playing the game of it. And in the routine you do the same trick three
times in a row, but even though it is the same trick, the method confuses people so much that they
don’t notice that the same trick just happened.
What makes this simple method work. 1) the
directions to the spectator changes every round, and they feel like they have more control each
round, when in fact they don’t. 2). The dice are placed on the cups, and that how they identify the
cups. However, the dice are removed by the spectator at the end of two of the phases. The lack of
the dice at the end really gets them. They have been moving the numbers. Switch number 1 and 3.
Once the numbers are gone, they are all just blank cups. I’ve had a number of people say they
couldn’t remember where they had placed the paper ball. So when you reveal it, they are so
impressed and confused. 3) The final phase of the basic routine changes so many little details and
seems to give them so much “control” over what is happening that no one seems to notice that you
actually gave them more control during round two. And the prediction at the end really fools them.
And this is just the basic routine.
And now, the one complaint (or concern that
you need to think about). This trick only works if the spectator follows directions, and you won’t
know if they did until you lift the cup. I “failed” this once because they couldn’t follow
directions, which looked like I messed it up. So I am trying to be super specific from now on.

Werlen's Green Neck System is one of the most significant pioneering approaches to Mentalism in
our generation, so I was really interested when his Devil's Cups came out. The kit is fine, the
several effects are taught reasonably well, and the signature effect demonstrated how utterly
powerful the Green Neck principle can become when you add another principle. I could not perform
the effects out of the box after one study of the video; it took some serious reviewing and
rehearsal, but performing it is more than worth the investment of some time.
I have
expanded on the kit in two ways. First, the kit is small and can only play for closeup to small
parlor, so I bought five larger cups and dice on Amazon. Second, by adding a fifth cup, I also
perform using the Quinta method. By employing three different systems (Green Neck, some subtle
marking and Quinta), I am armed for a serious set of effects.
Highly recommended.

The true value of Devils Cups are not the cups, the case, or the dice. It is the system employed to
accomplish the final outcome of success.
Someone mentioned in a different review "... deceptive
and dishonest demos I’ve seen. The spectator absolutely does NOT shuffle the cups freely or
secretly..."
According to the ad:
No electronics.
No question asked.
The participant
can freely hide the die under any of the cups.
The participant freely and secretly shuffles the
cups as much as he wants.
Simple and foolproof method.
You can also use any small object
instead of the die.
If one compares the demo video of 4 cups to those words, I can perhaps
understand where the reviewer is standing, but only half correct... The performers back is turned
while the object is hidden, the cups are moved around as directed (please remember, this is a system
and not real), the object was secretly and freely hidden.
There is a routine taught, using 3
cups which allows the spectator to mix the cups freely.
The Devil's Cups system is not
limited to just using the supplied props but offers the performer a method for other routines...
Perhaps a bank night, maybe a chair test...
The true value with Devils Cups IS the
secret... allowing uses for other presentation capabilities.

First off, I had ideas of my own incorporating Spotted dice with these. It will have a killer
finale. But, the subtle marks on two of the cups are far from subtle. I found replacements for
them, and I will subtly mark them myself. The routines are based on an AL Koran effect, which is
what I thought, guiding all the moves but I am happy. The videos are worth my investment, and
fixing things I personally didn't like makes it a winner for me. Others my not be bothered by the
markings on the cups. For me, I could never use them. But worth the price of admission for me was
incorporating dice numbers and colors with these. Some good ideas. Now I'll make them unique.
Which is the best of all worlds. I got my money's worth.

I found this effect really very good and a great bargain.Well done video and many variations can be
done. Very clever secret and a good fooler.
