I have been practicing with this product and find it fun to do.
However, I only gave it 3 stars because of the DVD, the instructions were a little fuzzy. This was due to the DVD not reviewed by Mr Harlan's quality control producers. Seemed like the explanation part of the Bonus trick was incomplete. I contacted penguin and they were nice enough to send me a new one but it was the same. Mr. Harlan simply ran out of recording time, therefore explanation was incomplete.
I contacted Mr. Harlan direct (web site). he took awhile to answer but finally did and discovered the error. he sent me the remaining explanation in narrative by email.

And I purchase a lot! This is chalked full of ideas and although I do almost nothing in here exact way that it's described, I have tried all the routines on here. I just re-constructed them to use my own handling, they are straight out of this DVD tho. I believe Dan may teach simplified versions of effects to make sure that even the novice card magician can begin to perform his magic without years of practice & study. He sometimes even mentions when he's teaching, things like "You could use (this sleight or that one), but the easiest way would be to just do (this)". So the intermediate-expert can figure it out, without him going into lengthy descriptions on advanced card sleights...

I was fortunate to catch this while it was in the coolbox for just a few bucks and I'm so glad I did!

My favorites, R&B Special and Star Trek. Star Trek I do as described but I changed the presentation a bit so that it suits my character (I don't know much about Star Trek) So I tell a story about time travel, and use the cards to illustrate.

As for R&B Special, I performed it several times and then was challenged by my magic coach (Aaron Fisher) to break it down completely and change the handling of it entirely to begin to employ several sleights, and different variations on the timing and audience management. (Reverse engineering so-to-speak) Something I absolutely hated doing! The routine is straight out of this DVD, but the method I have now is completely my own. I owe it to Dan though. I thought it was great to begin with and it's the entire reason I bought it, but the way I perform it now, I feel is so much more clear, and so fluid when I do it because I reconstructed it myself and I'm not trying to imitate something I've seen, rather I'm executing it in a way that I painstakingly created myself as a means to the same end, changing every moment, wherever I would fail to change the method,.. so now I can never go back to the original.

I am in no way claiming my way is better, it just works better for me personally since I had to experiment with it so much. And with each change, I performed it a few dozen times and the reactions only got stronger. I've performed it close-up for lay audiences, on webcam for several groups of magicians, and it was a hit in my parlor act in a room full of over 35 Magicians who were all floored by this routine! (Now I do it all the time, but I performed my version of "R&B Special" the first time I ever got in front of a group of magicians)

I have never found another book, or video describing so many great uses for this particular gaff. This video is full of tricks with a single gaff, all of which could be classified as outside-the-box thinking.

Highly Recommended! Dan Harlan is a real genius, and this DVD is full of gems! There's something here for everyone, and some will find many things in here for them. ok, ending rant now, buy this, you won't regret it,.. til next time!

For the number of routines this is great value. These are routines that you will use, at least I will!
Simple set up with a simple gimmick.
Gives you plenty of ideas.

The tricks on this dvd are well worth the money! They are all workers! If you don't know already Dan created the Hover card and many other greats effects. My only complaint is with the bonus trick which cut out in the teaching. I contacted Penguine and they said they are working on a solution because all of the dvd's were like that. Other than that this is still a great buy and I'm sure it is something you'll use and will help you come up with some of your own idea's as well. Add to cart!

The previous issue noted by past reviews about the instructions in the video "cutting" out early have been fixed. Great tricks and explanations.

It is a good trick I have only tried the basics however my reason for 3 stars vice 5 is because of the DVD. The producers of the DVD did not do a good job of reviewing it (quality control). Some explanations were incomplete (ran out of recording time). Penguin was nice enough to send me another DVD but it was the same.
I contacted Mr. Harlan direct through his website. After a few days he finally got back to me (busy) and explained what was missing (in narrative). He also said that all of his DVD's for this trick were the same, and he apologized.
You (penguinmagic) will probably be getting same complaints from other customers.

I feel like this might be the best work on the use of the [gimmick] to date. The effects are top rate and are real foolers. Of course the best of the bunch is the show piece R&B Special. This fooled me badly. But all the magic is really very good. I am sure you would want to put your own story/patter to some of the effects, but that is a good thing.

I only give the DVD 4 stars because anything can be improved. It really is an excellent buy. Now you can finally use those double back Red/Blue cards that have been gathering dust in your magic drawer.

Do yourself a favor and buy the DVD. Dan will thank you and you will thank me.

Great ideas i already use the gimick , but the red and blue routine its special,if you like r&b, you will love this one, good price,takes a litle practice but its worth the time u invest,i use it to close my routine not as an opener ull see why,well what can i say. Dan always makes good magic you wont be disapointed.and im amaze with penguin magic and his prices lately good job guys...

I really enjoyed this video. Even though I prefer a little more straight forward teaching (less music) Dan is one of my favorite magic teachers and this video really delivers some very useful training. Dan can take a simple gimmick that might otherwise be overlooked and make me want to add it to my other routines!
