Go to see this lecture !
You have a lifetime of work inside ;-)
if you want to
win 20 years in your artist's career you have to
Watch and carefully watch this lecture, take
notes, take your grandma with you if you want, take the love of your magic and enjoy ;-)
i
watched a lot of lectures in Penguin but this Penguin Lecture is a must watch from any point of
view, creativity and much more !
A lot of lectures are made by guy who said they are
lecturers but i sleep in the first 15 minutes :( ok maybe 20...
Here you feel, even If Mac
King is not a professionnal Lecturer like he said the last one was 20 YEARS AGO
BUT BUT he knows
the rythm and how to keep the focus in this 4HOURS lecture, it's a fact or a gift but i will say
INTELLIGENCE or SMART AWARENESS IN THE PRESENT
SO MAC KING KEEP IT UP
YOU ARE
MORE CONCERNED ABOUT THE OTHERS AND WHAT YOU BRING FOR US BECAUSE SOMETIMES I AM SO DISAPPOINTED
ABOUT WHAT I SEE AND THE LACK OF ORIGINALITY I SEE IN THIS LECTURES
THEY ALL FORGET ABOUT WHAT
THEY ARE SHOWING IT'S NOT FOR THEM BUT FOR US ;-)
DAMMMM I LOVED YOUR LECTURE ;)

I'm a big fan of Mac King's and this was a wonderful opportunity to hear wisdom of his pertaining to
a long career in magic.
I did not go in looking for tricks to perform, but for insights
and thinking related to creating and performing. He delivered.
One small drawback, and I'm
including this just in case my critique can have any influence on future lectures, is that host Dan
Harlan had a tendency to speak over Mac and interrupt him, particularly during the Q&A. I know it
was unintentional, and Dan is a cool person, but a good rule of thumb would be: if the guest
lecturer is speaking, the host's mouth needs to stay shut :)
I don't want to end my review
on a critique, so I will say that topics discussed included: packing light, pocket management,
politics (getting along with other performers at a club), spectator / audience management, dealing
with bad crowds / bad shows and way more.

The one routine that I use the most from this lecture is the rope routine.
The lecture
itself is entertaining and contains lots of insightful stories and lessons. All the little tips
from a successful entertainer really add up.

You learn so many good rope tricks and some funny gags. If you are a stage magician, you should get
this.

Do not get this if you are looking for strong tricks. Get this for the valuable advice of a proven
professional. This is mostly silly gags that I never see myself doing. But Mac is a creative genius;
that is where the value is

Video is slightly over 4 hours long, but is not that useful. He spends quite a bit of time talking
about personal experiences, things that went wrong, etc., that is not very helpful.
Some tricks
are just gags done at a dinner table, not suitable for a performance, even roaming a restaurant.
He spends time explaining in detail a trick with a cigarette, but he does not perform it any
more because most people don't smoke. You probably would not want to perform it either.
In
short, a lot of the video was not that useful.

Some good information but I was expecting more tricks instead of funny gags.

I was disappointed. I bought the lecture to help improve my presentation of his rope trick, but that
was not included.

I was so happy to see a comedic magician on the Penguin Live Roster. I remember making the
suggestion a couple of months ago and I'm so glad that Acar managed to get the Legend Mac King.
Thank you.
I am currently only an hour into the lecture and already I can see that it was
money well spent. The rope routine where the knot moves on the spec's piece of rope is priceless! I
can't wait to see what else he will be doing. I look forward to many more comedic magicians on the
Penguin Live lineup.

I've seen Mac King perform several times, and I think he's THE BEST comedy magician whom I've seen
working today. He's funny, super likable, and has great magic chops. Years ago I saw Mac as the
emcee of one of these hugely overblown "World's Greatest Magic" events. My girlfriend and I agreed
that Mac King as emcee was BY FAR the best part of the show. I've seen his Vegas show numerous
times. HE KILLS--every show. In this video, no you're not learning anything especially
"mind-blowing" magically. What you ARE learning, is how how a PROFESSIONAL, TOP-NOTCH ENTERTAINER
does what he actually does. There is no "magic pill". The card in shoe, and rope effects that he
teaches, IF YOU BOTHERED TO LEARN THEM, would serve you very well indeed. He tells the interviewer
MANY TIMES what you have to do to actually get really good as a pro entertainer. The fact the some
of the reviewers of this video didn't get that, is no surprise at all. It seems as though there
HAVE to be the usual "Magical Mister Magoos" who will watch this 4 hour video, and get NOTHING from
it other than "gags and a few tricks". On that note,I WILL say that I thought that a few of the
gags were kinda irrelevant, but then again you do get to see how Mac King's mind works as he does
those gags. However--the 2 hours of Mac being interviewed by Dan Harlan is GOLD. One example that
comes to mind, is a segment where Mac emphasizes that his show is 100% ALL ABOUT THE SPECTATORS. I
think VERY FEW magicians will get the power of that truth, and how that makes Mac King a superstar.
I met Mac once after one of his shows, and he has GOT to one of THE most gracious human beings I've
ever met. The core of Mac's humanity, his dedication to his craft, plus his wonderful sense of humor
& his ability to connect with people, is what this video is all about. As Dariel Fitzkee pointed out
in "Showmanship For Magicians", the public DOES NOT CARE about tricks. Not a whit! What they care
about is the persona of the performer, and his ability to entertain them for a while. Mac King
embodies those truths. Watch, learn and absorb.
