In the summer of 2002, three masters of Coin-Fu met at a secluded monastery (strangely resembling the site of the IBM convention) for the sole purpose of bashing their audiences senseless.

Their weapon of choice? Coins.. . at close range.

In the wee hours of the morning, video cameras captured the most dramatic moments of what westerners call a "session" and escaped alive with the only known footage of these bizarre and mysterious rituals.

From master Kam:

  • Beijing Coins Across - Three silver coins shimmer into mirage-like existence, dance from hand to hand, then suddenly transform into ancient brass Chinese coins. They change singly back to silver, and visibly flash back to brass. This opening attack from Curtis Kam's formal parlor show is the showpiece for his signature "Fingertip Wildcoin" sequence.
  • Coercive Purse - Cited by Tommy Wonder for its construction, this routine uses psychological warfare to beat skeptics into submission. Imagine the copper/silver transposition warped through a purse frame, by way of a Jedi mind trick. The final stroke of oriental deviousness is the production of a coin larger than the purse frame, from the purse frame.
  • The Goblet - Six coins transpose, transform and transport in, over, and around a stemmed metal goblet as Kam's pioneering techniques turn this under-used prop into a dangerous weapon. The Goblet allows the elements of Beijing Coins Across to be re-sequenced for greater killing efficiency.
  • Tiananmen Square - For his final blow, Kam added a coin purse to Fingertip Wildcoin, punishing the audience with a standing handling of Roth's classic Purse and Glass that goes way off the deep end, ending with 13 Chinese coins covering the tabletop in a dazzling display of mysterious metals.
East met West as 2 masters of the unusual stepped upto the mats. Kainoa Harbottle met Kam's attack with a production sequence not for the queasy - 'Repeat Coins from Nostril.' Stunningly grotesque, it uses parts of your face not normally involved in western presentations.

He then staggered the others by tipping his groundbreaking work on the underground Mutobe Palm and an ingenious spider application of the otherwise ludicrous over the top vanish from Bobo's Modern Coin Magic.

Finally, from the exotic, mysterious land known only as Portland, came western master Reed McClintock, who delivered the deathblow by actually performing International Dissolve from his aptly named manuscript series, Knucklebusters. To rub salt in the wounds of the disbelieving, he then explained how it was done, and made it seem easy.

The ending to this routine will pummel you, so be prepared to defend yourself.

Thats right! I had not touched coins until this DVD! Most people would probably say I made a mistake buying this DVD but I don't think I did. It took me a while but I can comfortably perform most things on this DVD. Its very hard to do, but its so damn visual.

I recommend it for anyone serious about coin magic.....

I am not really new to coin magic, and I am not a beginner. But I am also not an expert. This DVD is awesome and some of the material is easy. Although you will find that a lot of the material on this DVD is hard, if you just work at it for about 2 days you will get it. (Editorial deletion) The routines are incredible and they are very entertaining to watch. Also the special guests, Kainoa Harbottle and Reed McClintock contribute some amazing tricks. Although I do not think that Reed's stuff was very good, it is still a very good video. Once you learn one of the routines well, you will want to do it everywhere, because they are amazing and will fool your audiences. I love this video. Also, Curtis Kam is a VERY good teacher and goes over the stuff many times.

Curtis Kam definitely the star of this DVD... Report this review

I was very impressed with the coin skills of Curtis and chums on this DVD. The visual effects (and skills needed to achieve them) are impressive.
My BIG beef with this DVD- and with the performance of so many coin 'magicians'- is the appalling patter.
Take 'repeat Coins From Nostril', for example. I cannot recall how many times I heard the phrase 'of course' mumbled just before a change, revelation, disappearance etc. The general feel I got was that the magician's patter was hastily made up as he (no names mentioned!) went along.
This reminded me of what magic is NOT. It is NOT just about showing off with cards, coins, etc. It is NOT about entertaining yourself. It is about creating magic in the minds of spectators. This requires practise not only of moves, sleights and the rest, but interaction with people. Making connections and maintaining interest. Patter is a crucial step in transforming tricks into magic.
So, coin magicians, please get out of the bedroom, cast off your desire to show off and start creating WONDER.
Okay, rant over!

If you are looking for visual coin magic then this is the dvd for you. This is all eye candy. Be warned; it's all hard. Nothing on this DVD is easy. Maybe that's a good thing because when you finally have a routine down I guarantee you will have earned it. Either way it is definitely not for beginner's. Beijing Coins Across is my favorite routine on the DVD and one I perform regularly. Tianamen Square is incredibly hard and is prop heavy (13 chinese coins of various size and color).

I used to shy away from advanced coin magic videos. People would write in their review "not for beginners." Now I realize watching these are a great way to get inspired. If say you were learning how to play guitar, would you only listen to songs like Mary had a little lamb? This video is taught well by Curtis and his guests. The camera angles are great. There are moves that even the beginner will be able to do in a short time. This video is worth the money!

This is one of the most mind blowing coin magic DVDs I have ever seen! I new I was getting something a little more advanced than normal when I ordered this, but after seeing the performance on my TV I was floored and expected to be in way over my head. I wasn't exactly wrong, but this is for sure not the beginners coin DVD (good thing I'm not a beginner otherwise I would still be trying to get some of this stuff down.) Curtis Kam rocks! Along with the quest you get some awesome, in your face coin magic! I strongly recommend you get this DVD if you even think you might want to learn just one thing from it. Trust me, you will learn tons!

Coin magic for new magicians is perhaps one of the hardest things to perform. This video is not meant for new magicians. Great for advanced magicians, Fists of Fury is filled with great stage style performance coin magic but if you are an intermediate magician, such as myself, you will sit there with your coins in your hand and think you got hit with those Fists of Fury when you realize that you can't keep up with one of the best coin magicians around. If you are good with coins....GO FOR IT.

Great, But Challenging Report this review

I have seen all three gentleman: Curtis Kam, Kainoa Harbottle, and Reed McClintock in person at lectures. They are all the real deal, top coin magicians! It's fun to watch them work! If you love advanced coin magic this is for one! if you are new to magic this may inspire you to practice and reach for these effects: Beijing Coins Across is great and International Dissolve as well! So if you love heavy duty hand work and killer visual effects pick this up you will not be disappointed!

Nice coin routines, assumes some prior knowledge Report this review

Got this on a bit of a whim, but it really was pretty good. I do not typically perform coin routines, but some of these are real zingers and piqued my interest again.

My only significant complaint is about the fact that he really tries hard to sell you on his previous work (I think the Penguin title should probably mention this is at least the second in a series). I think there must have been 4-5 direct references to look at material on his earlier one ("palms of steel volume 1").

On the whole, the camera work was pretty good at giving you angles on everything to make it approachable and things did not feel too rushed in general (especially with the ability to rewind to check things out again).

Some might feel this did not go into enough detail on some of the sleights, but for anyone with at least some exposure to coin magic it was plenty. He definitely assumes you know some of the common terminology like "edge grip" and "classic palm" as well as "fingertip rest" so probably not for you if that's new for you.

Tough Stuff Report this review

I bought this as a Cool Box...moves are tough, BUT I didn't think the routines were that entertaining...more for magicians...for the price, it was a steal...not for beginners, good moves to add to your repertoire.
