Once in a while we come across a trick with a method that is as inspiring and whimsical as the effect it creates. "AmazeBox" is the best example of this that we've ever encountered (think of the wow factor of the best Tenyo items...but this one you can use onstage for hundreds of people). It is simply, elegantly this: a box that switches and forces without you ever touching it. No electronics. In fact, the method is most closely related to origami.

Imagine this: you ask everyone in the audience to write down their favorite song (or first kiss, or three-digit number, or whatever you want) on a slip of paper and drop it into the cardboard box at the foot of the stage. The box never goes out of sight and (truly) nobody touches it. During your show, you invite a spectator to approach the box and open it, then reach inside and remove any slip at random. In the act of opening the box, the spectator unknowingly switches all the audience's papers for an entirely different batch of slips you prepared in advance. Use this to force a favorite song or number or celebrity name. THEN, you can use the information written by the spectators later on in the show.

Mentalists will immediately identify the many, many opportunities this little box affords. It's as light as air, can be decorated or repurposed in any way you like, and is quite possibly the only effect we've produced that is easier than easy. The spectator switches the papers. You don't even touch the box.

We're absolutely thrilled with the ingenuity of this incredible little box, and the way the box is designed and folded makes the switch automatic. It's impossible to fail and, we think, impossible to figure out. The fun, toy factor is undeniable, but true professionals will find this piece invaluable. We are grateful to the creative Mark Shortland for working with Vanishing Inc. Magic on this exciting new release.

"Mark Shortland has created an ingenious and devious solution to an age old problem. Natural looking, hands off in operation and simple to use; this might well be exactly what you are looking for."
- Luke Jermay

"AmazeBox is enormously practical, and is as ingenious as the best Tenyo effects, but built into a stage prop that looks entirely normal"
- Joshua Jay

"I've never been so excited for a magic utility device in my career!"
- Kyle Marlett

"I'm using AmazeBox in my show. As soon as I saw it I knew that every mentalist and magician could find a use for it in their show too!"
- Andi Gladwin

This is a very well designed device and it is made from quality materials. But let me tell you what my observations are. The pre-folded box I received was not folded exactly as it should have been. A couple of folds and slots did not line up properly so I had to do some cutting and re-folding of my own to get the box assembled properly. I was successful, but this should not have been necessary. You are directed to a website to view assembly instructions. They are very long, but well done. My problem with the site was that Mr. Shortland, the inventor, never shows you HOW to use it!! He talks about his show all the time but never demonstrates it in action. I really would have liked to see it being used in real life by the inventor. This is a routine I have never done before. The way the box works is really quite ingenious, especially considering it is really just folded card stock. But one thing I noticed was that it would be very unfortunate if one of your spectators, especially the first one to put a slip of folded paper into the box, were to lift the box and give it a shake. They would hear something inside and feel something banging around. As near as I can tell, that is the only time that you would be in real danger of having the boxes secret discovered. Honestly, that is pretty amazing. Considering the high price of $40 it really should have come with its own instructional and assembly DVD as well.

I highly recommend this trick, for the mentalist and magicians . I have bought other props that cost hundreds of dollars but you have to touch it in order to make the switch of forced billets. The fact that the box looks so innocent and you never go near it is just great. I give it 10 stars.

The box is very well constructed and in general the device is a worker, And I like it. The only thing is I consider the box is not 100% angle proof, also you need to make sure the spectator open the box in certain way to avoid suspicion.
Overall the box is very good and I feel I need a smaller one for using on tables.

The Amaze Box is just that...AMAZING! It looks like a very plain cardboard box in white and you do not touch it as you have one from your audience do the opening of the box and draw out a slip of paper! You cannot be accused of doing something sneaky as you didn't have to touch the box. The audience members put their slips of paper in the slot and when the time comes an audience member opens the box and draws out one of the papers! It really is and amazing effect and an amazing box as it does all the work for you and sits there looking innocent!

This is an ingenious and clever switching device. I love it!

Easy to assemble and a nearly invisible hands off switch. This one was priced too low for what it is capable of.

Best idea of 2015 by far. Highest recommendation. Unlimited uses. Home run!

AMAZING Report this review

lets just say.. the amaze box really is amazing. Super clever effect that it so devious and so much fun to do. I just got this two days ago and already created the routine around it. I will be buying 2 more just to make the effect even better! The setup takes less then 5 minutes and the box does the magic for you. You don't touch the box the entire performance. Could be used for card switches, billet switches, money switches; basically anything that could fit inside the slot can be switched!

Let me begin by saying that I almost *never* give 5-star reviews. I usually give 4-stars to things that are *really* good, and I reserve that fifth star for the best of the best. This is one of those things.

You know what it does, the trailer tells you that much: It switches pre-collected billets. It's pure genius, and leaves you in control of whatever presentation you want, because you always know the outcome. If you need billet-switching and the use of a box that spectators can fill before the show works for your presentation, then you will be absolutely happy with the AmazeBox, hands down. Its method is devious and fun to know.
