I realize that this effect is limited to someone's living room using their DVD and TV or on stage,
so it's not going to be a big seller. But under $9? My gosh, if the price were ten times that, it
would be well worth it. You get six specially mastered DVDs that look for all the world like a box
set of Bonanza episodes from the cut-out bin at WalMart. And with a little understanding of how the
DVDs and the player that you are using work, you can pull off a minor miracle. (I like the previous
reviewer's idea of having members of the audience act out the scene before it's selected. That's
dynamite and could be very entertaining.)
I also don't mind that it's Bonanza. The
logical explanation for the audience is, "It's in the public domain, folks, which means I'm cheap
and don't have to pay the producers of Bonanza any royalties."
Anyway, don't let the lack
of reviews and low price scare you away. This isn't a failure. It's brilliant if you understand
that you can't walk around with it.
Well the use of the tv show Bonanza may be a bit out of date, but the effect is solid.
6
dvds to select from, all different, yes you can actually view ANY episode, they pick ANY DVD (free
choice)----You never see which one they pick-they select a show and a chapter--all done while you
are NOT looking.
You have them read a prediction which they had BEFORE they made their
choices and you predict exactly which scene they randomly selected.
A self-working
prediction system, where EVERYONE gets to watch a clip from a DVD and YOU predict it-cool huh.
Everything is examinable, just pop the dvd in and select your show.
If they could
UPDATE this with say BIG BANG THEORY or some other popular show this would be very salient today.
I think this has lots of stage or Television work potential or little parties at home.
It
really is clean looking. Comes with many ways for participants to confirm that there is "nothing
funny" about the DVDs. They can check them out before and after the effect and still find nothing.
I would have the participants act out or read a scene containing the dialogue from the DVD
scene that will eventually be chosen. It would be great as a sort of story about something your
"father used to always say." Then everyone sees that it came from this DVD.
Participant
actually gets to take the remote and select whatever scene they want and it always works. You could
even leave the room. They don't have to tell you what scene or DVD they are selecting.
Precognition is one of the coolest stage, mentalism effect around. You could use this in a living
room or parlor setting but it's not a walkaround effect. Why? Because you need a DVD player and
monitor. The effect is simple, you have a six DVD set of Bonanza episodes (if you are under 35 you
may not remember Bonanza). You demonstrate with a volunteer that it is really a set of episodes and
that any episode and chapter can freely be selected. The magician then makes a writes his
prediction. Another volunteer randomly selects an episode and plays the episode. The magician
reveals a prediction - lines from the very episode that is playing! There are a lot of possiblities
for this trick. Having a projector and screen is probably a necessity for a large audience although
a portable DVD player might work for a smaller audience. The DVDs and packaging are top notch - no
cheesy sticker labels on the DVD.
