What a great piece of magic, and a lot of fun to perform. I was thrilled when it came available
for purchase. The material you receive in the mail is high quality. However, anyone buying this
trick needs to know that there is only one word/finish included. Meaning the same person/people can
not see the you perform this trick more than once. It would have been nice if they would've
included more than one finishing word.

I have to be honest (like its a part of my ADHD lol)
I ABSOLUTELY HATE Book Tests.
They
are Boreing. I've never really seen one That I knew the method of or seen performed that I liked.
They are all structured the exact same way.
Open to a page. Find a word or Passage. I tell you
what it is.
This however is an absolute gem. It uncovers the book test in a clever way by
focusing on the words themselves. The book is a side character at best in this.
The method
is almost self-working. The way to obtain the word is simple but effective. The use of words as
almost a kind of music to the audience was fantastic.
However. This routine is not for
everyone. The way you get into the effect can be a bit unorthodox at times. The script is heavy and
can take a long time to memorize and put into action. The flow has to fit you and it won't fit
everyone.
For example. If your character is a goofy uncle type. This effect is not for you. It
will feel fake and forced. A complete character 180 that won't sit well with your audience. BUt of
course I am not one to tell a person to not give an effect a try.
Pros.
- Easy to
perform
- A lesson in scripting
- An amazing Book test that's not treated as a book test
- Well worth your time to learn
Cons.
- Only one outcome (Unless you spend the time
to design a set that can be interchanged and have a bunch of different books for it. Or forcing
pages in one book.)
-It has a heavy script (I think that's a pro, but knowing the people on this
site. Its a con lol)
- It is largely character-driven and won't fit every performer.
You can perform the effect differently. You do not need the script. The basic effect is simple.
7 people choose a scrabble tile. A person randomly chooses a page and a word from a book. You
rearrange the tiles to be the chosen word. End.
But the script itself is the meat of the effect.
The effect is simple but the script is what carries the effect. But again. Any performance style can
be used.
I hope anything I said could help you in your decision on this effect. I
personally find the trick to be a very valuable routine that can teach the performer a lot and also
is a lot of fun to perform. Have an amazing rest of your day

Frances Menotti's trick is a fascinating book test-style that uses a dictionary and a diabolical
prop. Menotti's tricks are always unique and thoughtful--this one is not exception. I think the
best part about the trick is that the spectators (it takes 8 of them)do the magic themselves.
The only complaint I have is that the DVD explaining the trick was defective. The first half
played flawlessly and the second half didn't play at all.

This is one of the greatest mentalism effect ever. In fact is actually one of my favorite effect to
do when I'm performing on stage! It's a must have!

I already had a good idea what I would be getting, I am a performer and already used it 2x, the
first performance was a repeat show from last year and I used it as my closer, it was received so
well and told it was comparable to my normal closer so that speaks volumes to me. It is packaged
very nice and although the props individually may be cheap overall the package and DVD instruction
are perfect. This is a worker for sure
I perform this trick eny chance I get, but sometimes I don't perform it because if the spectator saw
this twice they would know it is a force word because it is the same world (the world you will get
is painter) every time. That is the only downside of this trick but as the gimmick quality it is
perfect! He also gives you a black velvet box that everything fits in and so this is a great buy and
I recommend this trick!
If you have never done any mentalism, now is your chance. The ideas and performance of this set is
AMAZING! Order yours before they are all gone.
Very clever. I can see why he fooled Penn & Teller!
Francis Menotti has hit a home run with Wordsmyth! A great premise, quality gimmicks and a clever
premise make this a worker for parlor or stage. 4/5 stars because it is not repeatable or
customizable, but still highly recommended!
