I have mixed feelings with this seminar. 3,5 out of 5
First of all, this is not that difficult
material as I readed in other reviews. Well, I train mostly coin magic in the last years but apart
from the technical difficulty of some moves, there is nothing that requires a big amount of deep
learning and interpretation. This being said, you have to read between the lines in the Harbottle
magic which is offered here.
The whole seminar is a bit chaos. He makes this chaos entertaining
and I like to see how he losts control of the magician-audience and takes it back again. But at the
same time you wish the audience would talk a bit less. He teaches some routines that, if you
followed Kainoa in Ganii or his selling-material, you already kind of know. And that is why I bought
this video, since I wanted to see him doing it again and leting him give me some deeper
explanations. But again, how deep they are depends on how good you look at what is being offered,
since this seminar is more of the kind of Routine-Explanation-Little theoretical analysis, but just
a bit. If you pain attention though, you can learn some very good magic and some very advanced and
intelligent structures, which is why I liked this very much.
THe card stuff ist -in my opinion-
completely irrelevant. It does not add anything new or interesting. The triumph is nice; the first
"trick" is just a longer and too complicated version of a nice old effect.
The interview is
again one moment in which you see a professional artist saving the day. The questions are too flat.
You could expect those questions coming from a layman magazine. The good thing about htat is, first,
that those are questions that beginners like to do and therefore beginners will enjoy this seminar
very much, which is good. Kainoa himself tries to answer every question and turning them into
interesting thoughts. This way he really adds value to something that started being uninteresting.
If you are interested in close-up magic which can be seen by a larger table in a restaurant or a
larger audience sitting in a close-up setting, then you will be very pleased with this seminar. His
stuff is great and worth learning. If Penguin Live is the best way to learn his stuff, that I cannot
say. For me was more an opportunity to enjoy a long performance-chat wich a magician whom I really
enjoy reading from time to time.
