Clever but expensive Report this review

Was a cool trick, clever. But definitely better for Instagram and can’t see myself performing it impromptu. For the price you can buy something with a whole impressive routine rather than this one trick.

Why is now 15¡¡¡¡dolar plus expensive than before, when the trick was released? Any explanation to that, Mr Morelli?

jaimessupermago, Hi. Calen, like so many other magic creators probably has no control over the pricing. That's usually set first by the Manufacturer, then by the Distributor and then further down the chain, by the Retailer. Each takes their cut.

Calen can only set the price on his own website (if it sells the trick), but most the time, even the top selling magicians are bound by buyer/seller agreements.

Oftentimes, a huge Wholesaler (like Murphy's Magic) will set the price at the beginning, and most importantly, the TERMS under which any effect can be sold. That's why when you go from one magic website to another, the prices are virtually identical.

Pricing is set by production costs, consumer demands, shipping costs, etc. My guess is that like most magicians, once Calen (or anyone) enter into an agreement with a retailer like Penguin, they are paid per unit, but no longer control the pricing. Hope that helps.

Yeah I had ordered it when it was $35. It never made it to me. They couldn't re-send it at the time because it was out of stock. When it was back in stock it has jumped up to $50 and I wasn't interested in paying that price for what it is.

Isn't resale price maintenance illegal in the US?

Yes and no for retail price maintenance. If a company is perfectly strict then it may be legal. If there is even occasionally or through one party a lower price, then it apparently becomes no longer legal (no legal advice offered, as i am not a lawyer. However, I have had to deal with this in the past).
