There’s no video or any explanation of how this gimmick was intended to be performed, and the
quality of the gimmick is poor enough that it would be embarrassing to allow examination. Usually
with 3d objects printed on paper you want to move fast because the illusion falls apart upon
extended viewing, even when the gimmick is relatively high quality, which this is not.
If
you show people a penny and a match book and then claim to have melded them together you can’t just
flash the impossible object at them and run off, they will want to hold it and examine it- just
beware, because when you do they WILL pity you for agreeing to the inspection.
I tried
googling to find the original video demonstration of this effect and found that Sankey has used the
MetaMorph name for an entirely different effect now, a bill swap that would almost certainly have to
be better than this. It’s the equivalent of your parents giving your younger sibling the same name
as you, because you were too disappointing to be allowed to carry the name uncontested. Sankey’s
mind has created a seemingly endless pile of sometimes great stuff, and sometimes it’s just janky as
hell. File this one firmly in the latter column… but if you find yourself in need of starting a
fire, you could do worse than picking this thing up in the Penny Arcade as a cheap book of matches.
Just do the world a favor and never, ever perform it for other human beings.
