I love this trick.
Firstly - I'm a full-time pro, not a hobbiest.
Ok - on to the
review. All the bad reviews I've read are due to user error. Basically, they wanted this to work
perfectly with no practice. Duh...that's not going to happen. Even though this is a
mechanical/electronic trick, you STILL have to practice with it!
Now - how do you make it
work every time? Firstly, you'll need to determine HOW MANY cards you want to use. I find 8 to be
reasonable. I don't even switch decks. I just spread the top 8, they select, and I'm ready to go.
Secondly, you have to measure exactly the right amount of flash cotton to get exactly the
right boom. If you have TOO much, you can potentially blow the gimmick off the deck. If you have too
little, it just flashes and separates the cards a little but they don't flip over.
Thirdly, you need to make sure your internal leads are close enough to spark properly. If you
have them separated too far, they don't light. This happened only once to me after cleaning. Then I
figured out the right distance.
Ok - enough performance tips. How about an actual review?
I find the overall gimmick well built. I wish refills for the "top card" were more readily
available from sites like Penguin or Murphys etc but you CAN get them from the creator. They provide
a red and a blue top card and ONE 3d printed plastic holder to attach to the boom deck. I found the
3d printed holder to be SLIGHTLY loose after a few performances so I used some rubber cement and it
gave the necessary extra grip to stay on during performance. Worked well.
It's slightly
"knacky" at first but it's not bad. Again - practice makes perfect.
I LOVE this trick -
it's absolutely 100% surprising to everyone and it's SO fun when it exploads!
Honestly, the
flipping over of the deck to the signed card isn't the best part...the explosion is. So EVEN IF it
"fails" and doesn't flip (or flips too far and blows the top card off), it doesn't matter much.
They're too busy laughing and screaming in surprise to notice. I just bend over, pick up the deck,
fix whatever I need, and say LOOK! It separated right at your card!!
They don't care. They
care that their stupid finger gun blew up the deck. THAT is the trick. Finding a card is just a
little bonus.
