I noticed in one of the reviews that you are required to know the Mercury Card Fold to perform this
effect. That's not entirely true for two reasons. The first is that the 36-minute DVD explains how
to do the fold in a few ways. So it's not as if the instructions tell you to "perform an
alternate-finger shuffle" without telling you what an alternate-finger shuffle is. Second, the DVD
shows several ways of performing the necessary fold including right in front of the spectators.
That said, the basic effect is that the spectators are shown a clear plastic key fob. It has a
folded playing card inside and stays in plain view at all times. The spectator then freely selects a
card from a deck and signs it. Ultimately, the sign card is produced from the fob--which, again, has
been in plain view the entire time. (Of course, there's no reason for the card to be in view. The
fob could later be produced from a pocket.)
I rate this product with five stars for the
following reasons:
1. It's adaptable. Use money, predictions, or almost anything else that can
fit inside the fob or be folded to fit.
2. It's sturdy. I have not had the trick long, but I
cannot really imagine that the fob will break any time soon.
3. It's easy for novices to get the
hang of and perform passable effects, but it's even better for people with more skill.
4. The
explanations are clear, both for the easier and for the harder effects.
Granted, there are
not many complete routines here, but I've always preferred to get an adaptable tool (say, for
example, a stripper deck) and let my imagination take me from there. Copying someone else's routine
is OK, I suppose, but I'd much rather have someone thinking "How'd he do that?" than "Wow, that's
just like David Blaine did it."
