It's basically the old 'bite-out quarter with 1) A new, topical presentation, and 2) a stunning NEW,
VISUAL restoration.
Easy to do.
P.S., When I was a kid, I did this trick with a
folding quarter..but this gimmick is WAY improved in a couple ways:
1) Uses the new 50
State Quarter design.
2) The broken part really looks like a bite mark, not just a jagged edge,
3) Comes with an extra piece.
4) 2/3 of it is fused together, so it's not extra bendy.

Just got this based on the strength of your review. It arrived today in the mail and I am a very disappointed to say that the gaff is not a new 50 State/America the beautiful quarter. However the extra piece is from a 50 State quarter, so it doesn't even match the 1988 quarter. Your new work is great, but it's tough to find the old style quarters to borrow these days. I guess I should have specified my requirements in my order in spite of your review item #1.
I will add that Penguin was very accommodating in customer service, but as advise to all, if you want one of the Quarters whose Washington matches the last 15 years of production (i.e. State or America the Beautiful), make sure you stipulate that in the comments.
I got a State quarter too (Which I personally prefer) so that part didn't upset me, what upset me was that, just like yourself @RMHudspeth, I too got the extra piece from the State quarter, so they don't match.
I will say that it's not the biggest deal in the world, you really have to get a super close look at it to see that they don't match, I've used it a couple dozen times in the past few weeks, and so far no one has noticed, nor do they really want to see the extra piece after I pull it out of my mouth. I use the presentation of putting the extra bit back in my mouth and "spitting" it back on, so specs never really get a chance to scrutinize it.
Just wanted to let everyone know that I also received the standard eagle version as opposed to the 50 state version. I think you have to specify in the comment section. The extra piece did not match either...
But just as the 8 of clubz mentioned, the spectators never really get a chance to scrutinize it so I guess it doesn't matter.
I noticed it too late to switch it back to Penguin, but it's fine. The good quality of the gaff redeems that small issue.

HELPFUL HINT - Full diclosure… I do not have the new version with the extra piece but I've been a loyal P3 customer for a long, long time!
Guys...Remember, don't run if you're not being chased! Don't think like a magician… Think like a spectator! No one will ever notice if the quarters are different because you never draw attention to it and even those of you that have the old-school version before individual state coins came out...I've come up with an excellent way to ensure they didn't notice whether it was a state quarter or a regular quarter … After I borrow a coin I just take a quick look at it and go "now is this a regular quarter or is it one of those state quarters?... because I've accidentally used one before and somebody got mad at me cause they were collecting them." EVERY TIME they will say "Oh, I don't know" because they haven't paid attention to it and after you just quickly glance at it you say "phew, it's not a state quarter... I don't wanna go through that again, or Oh, we're good"… Even if it is a state quarter you now know they have no idea and if I wanna hand it back to them I'll give them a regular quarter back or if you don't want to do a switch.. just ask before you start the effect and say "if I can do something that will impress you with YOUR quarter will you let me keep it?" 99% will say yes and in fact I've had someone so spooked that they literally said "here take all my change" and handed me every coin they had in their pocket they were so freaked out. Hope this helps! And just a sidenote you guys can do this for the CIGARETTE THRU QUARTER as well and it works like a charm because no one is paying attention when you just asked to borrow a quarter :) Worst case scenario they hand you a state quarter and when you ask they say "I think it might have been a state quarter" you just nonchalantly say "no it's a regular one" and continue on like nothing happened and even just hold up your "older/non-50 state" Bitcoin quarter (if that's what you received) for them to see that they in fact gave you a regular quarter. It's not a big deal unless you act like it's one!
