This is really just Carey teaching his version of a routine that creates the classic oil and water
effect, but his routine is a real stunner, particularly the final phase, which I will absolutely be
using to close my own oil and water routine. The instruction itself is less than ten minutes - this
is not a negative or a positive, but a statement of fact so that you know what you're getting. Carey
gives very little instructions on the moves and techniques used, instead focusing on the routine
itself. This has upsides and downsides - the downside is that beginners might feel a bit lost
because there is insufficient information in the video to learn the techniques Carey uses. The
upside is that more experienced magicians don't have to be subjected to explanations of moves that
they've seen and done thousands of times before. It's a tradeoff. Also: The moves Carey uses in the
routine are not particularly difficult, but require some comfort with basic sleight of hand
techniques. Ultimately, I very much enjoyed this video and absolutely will be including his "slow
motion" final phase in my own presentations.
