Mr. Lovick's 'I Dream of Mindreading' is a great addition to my very limited card trick repertoire.
It comes with a couple variations involving marker cards, two by Lovick and one by Joshua Jay. These
are easily managed, since they have simplified the handling, no sleights or suspect moves. It's a
tight routine that can be embellished thematically or comically - played short or long.
The
surprise ending - showing all cards blank - is a mind-bender. A British magician recommended it to
me since he uses it in table-hopping at restaurants. He says it's by far the most effective part of
his routine. I took him a his word, and am glad I did. If you're going to do card magic, this is one
trick you shouldn't miss.
This trick is easy to learn and perform. No sleights, no fancy moves, nothing difficult to do.
People can't figure out how you know the thought-of card; after all, the deck is totally blank. The
method is brilliant. And I can't stress enough: there is NOTHING difficult here. I immediately put it
into my first line of tricks to do. And everything is examinable. Everything! When you finally show
that the deck is completely blank, audiences say: "What? That's impossible." Read the directions
slowly and carefully and you'll be performing this superb trick in no time. The tricks I do, I
confess, are all easy but with a big impact. This is a gem.
I purchased this effect thinking it was a early version of Joshua Jay's "Out of Sight".
It
is not...sort of.
Don't get me wrong, this is a very good stand alone effect. However,
without the kicker at the end which Joshua Jay developed.
This effect is the first part of
the Joshua Jay's excellent presentation (to which I ended up buying) with the same climax, but
again, without the killer ending.
If you want an economically great effect then this is for
you.
