Effect:
A random spectator is asked to answer out loud three questions from a psychological personality quiz on the back page of a genuine issue of Cosmopolitan magazine (USA edition. Please note magazine is not included. Purchasers are given details of how to easily obtain copies outside of the USA). Amazingly you have correctly predicted in advance with a three stage prediction exactly which answers they will give. Three big, amazed reactions from the audience are guaranteed from just a magazine. No one ahead (all three predictions are written before anything is said by the spectator).

No pre-show. The method is totally self contained. No secret assistants or stooges, only one prediction which is genuinely written in advance, nothing is switched or changed. Can be performed on the largest stage or up close on the street, in a restaurant, cocktail party, trade show, house party, college. Anywhere. Even over Skype with the predictions sent in advance by email. It will work every single time with 100% accuracy.

Comes with all the necessary very specially produced gimmicks which, if used with care, will last for hundreds and hundreds of performances.

The effect is a pain in the rear door to set up, but that is a one-time thing only. Once you prepared a copy of the magazine you can't really transfer the gimmick to a different one, so your copy will become increasingly old after a while. People are very unlikely to notice, though. These two aspects are the only reasons why I gave this effect 4 starts instead of 5.

The effect itself is super-fun to perform, as asking the questions and interacting with the spectator in that phase is very entertaining for everyone (you, the spectator, the audience). If you play it well you have a 10 minutes routine that is fun through and through, and not just a preparation for the big surprise at the end.

No sleights, no moves, no forces, completely self-working, always spot on in its predictions, and gets strong reactions. Very nice effect; I personally love it! I actually like it so much that I am planning to order 2 extra copies, set them up on different issues of Cosmo, and offer a "free choice" among three issues to the spectators. This would also justify the fact that some issues are older than others.

A Major Flaw Report this review

A nice idea (although certainly not original) by Anthony Owen. A lot of prep, but then you're good to go. My main issue with the effect is that the revelation includes predicting the score and other numerical info (which would be impressive to the spectator) but NOT the actual choices! I can't say anymore without leaning toward method, so this is a MAJOR FLAW in the effect. If you can live with that, great. For my performing venues (i.e.: corporate professionals with a high level of intelligence), Psycho Quiz doesn't get the job done.
