Dr. Jacob Daley's modified gimmick and handling for the vanish and reproduction of a handful of salt is a wonderful, subtle handling of this effect. Rehearse it carefully and you'll be rewarded. The original write-up of this in Hugard's Magic Monthly (May 1949) mentioned: "In Dr. Daley's hands this feat has left even magicians baffled as to the means employed."

Vernet's gimmick is made perfectly for Dr. Daley's presentation. Keep in mind this is not intended as a "long pour" type of effect, but you do have some control over the stream of salt pouring from your hand when you reproduce it, so by controlling it you can get a 16 - 18 second stream of salt, rather than simply dumping out a handful of salt onto a plate. (the salt pours from the bottom of your fist, so you don't have to turn your hand over to dump it out from the top side. (use fine grain popcorn salt to get a longer pour.)

For those unfamiliar with the name, Dr. Jacob Daley was a well-respected sleight-of-hand artist. He has several items in the famous "Stars of Magic" book alongside of such luminaries as Dai Vernon, Slydini, Ross Bertram, among others.
