I've seen Mac King perform several times, and I think he's THE BEST comedy magician whom I've seen
working today. He's funny, super likable, and has great magic chops. Years ago I saw Mac as the
emcee of one of these hugely overblown "World's Greatest Magic" events. My girlfriend and I agreed
that Mac King as emcee was BY FAR the best part of the show. I've seen his Vegas show numerous
times. HE KILLS--every show. In this video, no you're not learning anything especially
"mind-blowing" magically. What you ARE learning, is how how a PROFESSIONAL, TOP-NOTCH ENTERTAINER
does what he actually does. There is no "magic pill". The card in shoe, and rope effects that he
teaches, IF YOU BOTHERED TO LEARN THEM, would serve you very well indeed. He tells the interviewer
MANY TIMES what you have to do to actually get really good as a pro entertainer. The fact the some
of the reviewers of this video didn't get that, is no surprise at all. It seems as though there
HAVE to be the usual "Magical Mister Magoos" who will watch this 4 hour video, and get NOTHING from
it other than "gags and a few tricks". On that note,I WILL say that I thought that a few of the
gags were kinda irrelevant, but then again you do get to see how Mac King's mind works as he does
those gags. However--the 2 hours of Mac being interviewed by Dan Harlan is GOLD. One example that
comes to mind, is a segment where Mac emphasizes that his show is 100% ALL ABOUT THE SPECTATORS. I
think VERY FEW magicians will get the power of that truth, and how that makes Mac King a superstar.
I met Mac once after one of his shows, and he has GOT to one of THE most gracious human beings I've
ever met. The core of Mac's humanity, his dedication to his craft, plus his wonderful sense of humor
& his ability to connect with people, is what this video is all about. As Dariel Fitzkee pointed out
in "Showmanship For Magicians", the public DOES NOT CARE about tricks. Not a whit! What they care
about is the persona of the performer, and his ability to entertain them for a while. Mac King
embodies those truths. Watch, learn and absorb.
