Effect:
A deck of cards is removed from the box and the box is held momentarily by a spectator on your left. You have a card selected by the spectator on your right. The selection is done very fairly from a face down fan with the magician even offering to let them change their mind. Once the card is selected, the deck is raised and the selection is very fairly peeked at by the spectator that selected it. Upon being peeked at, the selection is placed face down between the palms of the spectator that chose it. You go on to explain that you made them think they saw a card using influence and subliminal messages. The first spectator is told the card they are holding was all in their mind. It is pointed out that the Ten of Hearts is pictured on the card box that the spectator on your left has been holding the entire time. You take the empty card box back as you hand the rest of the deck to the spectator who was asked to hold the box. They are asked to hold the facedown deck between their palms. The box is placed away in your pocket out of sight, and you proceed to read the spectator on your right’s mind by telling them the card that they thought they peeked at, in this case was the ten of hearts. Just like they saw pictured in their subconscious on the box. Next you explain that the theory of out of sight, out of mind applies to them. They turn over their card and it is now blank. Continuing, you explain that it really didn’t matter which card they picked in the beginning as you knew you were going to implant the ten of hearts in their mind all along. The second spectator is told to turn the deck over and look through it and it is blank as well. All cards can be thoroughly examined.
I like the premise of effects such as Void by Skulkor or Avalanche by Paul Harris. However, (without going into their methods too much) I didn’t care for what I felt was an unmotivated placement of the selected card on top of the empty card box. I wanted the actions in this release to be the same effect but with better motivation for the required actions. Thus, I named the effect “Avoid the Avalanche” as a nod to the two effects that inspired this handling.
P.S. - You will need to provide a blank deck and one other item (if you don't own it) which costs under $5
